My daughter Victoria is presently in grade 11 and loves   movies and everything about the movie industry. Her goal in life is to join the many talented people who have made directing cinamatography their life's career.   So,....ontop of her manditory classes, she is studying script writing and directing, film and theatre which covers most areas of movie introduction!   Film class is definitely one of her favourites and Victoria tries to enter every contest available to her,.... BC ZOOM Fest, BC skills Canada, BC Student Film Festival, and then there is   MY VICTORIA VIDEO CONTEST sponsored by the Victoria Film Festival association.

The MY VICTORIA VIDEO CONTEST contest ran for 3 months,.... we found out about it with only 2 weeks to spare.   Not much time to come up with a short (1 minute, maximum 2 minutes long) about the downtown core of Victoria.   Since one of our favourite family movie is Pirates of the Caribbean,.... AND having fully engaged in dressing up as the main characters for Halloween the past 3 years ,.... we decided to use the concept of PIRATES and somehow incorporate this visual at the Maritime Museum located in the heart of Victoria.   The Maritime Museum has a Pirate section.   The museum is also believed to be haunted.   Our concept was to be the ghostlike figures in Pirates form, with Bob Pearson (Victoria's Dad) being the tourist who is facinated with all the legends and historical documentations and background.

Once completed,... we handed our clip in with 2 days to spare and placed ourselves under BEST FAMILY catagory!

Roughly a week later, Victoria received an email letting us know that a preview of the movies would be shown at the Lucky Bar   in downtown Victoria and that we are all invited to come celebrate.   Due to the nature of it being a lisenced bar the location was not appropriate for Victoria 16 (who played Will Turner look-a-like) and her brother Spencer 13 (who played Commodore Norrington look-a-like) hence the fact they were not able to attend.   So Bob and I (Victoria's mom who played Jack Sparrow look-a-like), decided to support Victoria's film and headed down to the bar.   Overwhelmed by the attendance, I was impressed with the reception.   There was food and drinks, doorprizes and good music.   There was definitely a real   media buzz going around!   Unfortunately Bob and I arrived 20 minutes late,... but Bob's secretary (who also entered the contest placing her clip under the RED ZONE catagory), was able to inform us that our clip was shown right at the beginning of the evening.   Amongst our clips, some of the actual Victoria Film Festival contestants had previews shown of their work that night too.   how exciting.
Out of 64 entries in our competition, we were one of 20 to have our video shown at the LUCKY BAR.   I felt lucky (no pun intended).

In the rules it was noted that starting February 1, 2007, each day running for 10 days, the judges would submit 10 finalists that would have their clip shown on A-Channel News.   February 1st came and went,.... we were not home to view the first clip,.... it could have been ours,... we will never know.   Friday, February 2nd,..... I decided to put on the news and see who the second chosen finalist was,.....   "and now, the second finalist from My Victoria Video Competition,...."   It looked familiar, but it wasn't registering,..... oh my gosh!!!!   "SPENCER!!!! TORI!!!!! OH MY GOSH!!!!!!"   They both thought I was having some kind of health problem,.... they ran down the stairs as fast as they could to attend to my needs, when they saw I had the TV on and playing was our MARITIME MUSEUM clip!   How exciting.   We now knew we were one of the 10 finalists and on our way to the awards night on February 10th.   What we didn't know is that our clip shown on the News was not due to the judges having submitted their final results.   They were'nt in time for that,.... so the Victoria Film Festival committee chose their own favourites to be shown on A-Channel, and we were still chosen as one of the 10.   Although this did leave room for us not having been chosen by the actual judges.A

On the awards night, we won under the BEST FAMILY catagory and received a nice outdoor bistro set from Capital Iron.   Our clip was shown AGAIN that night, and Victoria and Spencer could hear within earshot someone say "He even walks like him!" .   HE,.... if only he knew HE is a SHE!

Enjoy the clip!
